Parliamo! A crash course in living in Prato

Parliamo! is a short, non-credit program run year-round. It's open to students and staff staying in Prato for at least three weeks.

What is Parliamo?

  • Italian language and culture basics
  • fun, small group sessions
  • up-to-date content and multimedia resources
  • interactive activities and practical exercises
  • taught by experienced local teachers

Why Parliamo?

  • learn some basic Italian communication skills to help you get around Prato
  • understand the history, and contemporary reality, of the city
  • deepen your intercultural learning during and beyond your stay
  • meet locals for language and cultural exchange
  • get a certificate of attendance upon completion of the program

The program content is tailored to your study discipline and experience, so it may vary from group to group.

Connect with Prato

Engaging with the local community is an important part of what we do at our centre. We host cultural activities that give you the opportunity to learn more about the local customs, culture and language.

Conversation Exchange

Want to know more about Prato and how the locals live? Want to discover the best pizza place or where to go on weekends?

Make new friends at Conversation Exchange: learn the basics of Italian, practise your conversation skills, learn more about the culture, and pick up tips to pass as a local!

Participating is easy and free (and light refreshments are provided) but places are limited. Please book at or pop into the Student Services office for more information.

Buon Appetito!

Do you know the perfect way to cook pasta al pomodoro? Enjoy an authentic experience by sharing a meal with an Italian family! Our Buon Appetito! initiative involves Monash students and local host families in Prato and aims to promote greater linguistic and cultural exchange. Learn about customs and traditions by cooking together and chatting over a meal.

Homestay program

Our homestay program provides you with not only food and accommodation but also an authentic intercultural experience. You'll experience family life in Italy by becoming ‘part of’ a family. You'll also have the opportunity to develop your Italian language and communication skills.
