Monash Law Prato Program - Enrichment Series 2018

Prato to the World: Learn about International Careers

On 24 April the Monash Prato Centre hosted the first in a series of three enrichment seminars for students attending the Monash Law Prato Program.

The seminar, From Prato to the World - Learn about International Careers, was chaired by Professor Marilyn Pittard, convenor of the Law Program, and welcomed three distinguished guests: Ms Vincenza Altieri, a Monash law graduate and partner at the Rome office of Studio Legale Delfino e Associati, the Italian affiliate of Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP; Professor Annalisa Ciampi, University of Verona, with experience as member of the European Committee of Social Rights and expert to Committee of Legal Advisers on Public International Law of the Council of Europe, and Mr Bruce Moore, General Counsel, Australian Red Cross and previously partner of the international law firm, now King & Wood Mallesons.

Sala Toscana was at full capacity on the day and students attending had the privilege to hear the first-hand experience of the guest speakers, and gain insight on how to approach a career in different legal professions.

The second seminar, What are the International Debt Capital Markets and how did they nearly blow up the World ten years ago? takes place on Monday 14 May at 12 noon in Sala Toscana, with guest speaker Professor Rowan Russell. A leading specialist in banking and finance law, capital markets, and member of the Securities Committee of the International Bar Association and the Academic Committee of the Banking & Financial Services Law Association, Professor Rowan Russell now teaches in the Faculty of Law at Monash having been a partner for 25 years in the international law firm, now King & Wood Mallesons. Students will also have the opportunity to learn from Professor Russell’s experience about how to enter into international legal practice.

The third seminar in the enrichment series, Brexit - what does it mean? Are there other risks of disintegration for the EU? is scheduled for June, and will take place during Block 3 of the Law Program. The guest speakers on the day will include Mr Marco Piantini, Italian expert on Brexit and Adviser to the Prime Minister for European Affairs, and Australian Ambassador to Italy, Dr Greg French. Further details regarding the lecture will follow in due course.
