We are delighted to announce that The Woolmark Company is sponsoring a new scholarship to support Monash students to study in Prato, Italy.

The Woolmark Company Prato Study Scholarship is designed to support students to further their academic development at the Monash Prato Centre and includes an Industry Experience coordinated by the Woolmark Company in Milan, Italy. It offers a unique opportunity to tour Woolmark allied creative industries especially the textile industry in Milan.

There are two $5,000 scholarships available for study in Prato in 2017-2018. Applications are due 5pm 7 July 2017.

The scholarship is open to students from the following faculties:

  • Arts
  • Art Design and Architecture
  • Business and Economics

In addition to their study in Prato, the successful applicants will be invited to:

  • participate in relevant extra-curricular activities related to the historical significance of the textile industry in Prato
  • undertake an industry tour led by The Woolmark Company's Milan office. The tour may include opportunities for the scholarship recipients to meet with industry leaders, attend international and/or European trade shows, and meet specialist curators, designers and manufacturers in the wool, textile or allied creative industries. The final tour program will be developed according to the time of year, the availability of The Woolmark Company, and the scholarship recipient's interests. Please note that travel and accommodation for the tour are not included in the scholarship.

Prior to their departure for Italy, the scholarship recipients will be invited to visit Geelong wool growers to observe the role of the Woolmark Company in assisting the Australian Wool Industry.

The Australian Woolmark Company is a research and development institute and is involved in the commercialisation of wool technologies now recognised as a global authority on Merino wool.

It is a merit-based scholarship (minimum credit (60%) average) and interested students will also need to demonstrate how the Italian Industry Experience would be relevant to their course, interests, and professional career and development goals.
