Prato alumni reconnect in Melbourne

Over 70 people gathered in Melbourne last week for the inaugural Prato alumni function hosted by the Monash Prato Centre.

Alumni from 2001 (when the Prato Centre opened) to as recently as this year, and representing all five faculties which run courses at the Prato Centre, attended the event.

The function was held at CO.AS.IT’s theatre and museum in Carlton. Sir James Gobbo AC CVO, Emeritus President of CO.AS.IT and Foundation Patron of the Monash Prato Centre, spoke at the event.
Professor Rae Frances, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, presented Lauren Cahill, 2012 Arts alumnus, with the prize for the ‘Arts in Prato’ tagline competition for her entry ‘Study, Explore, Live: Arts in Prato’. Lauren won a return trip to Prato. She will become an ambassador for the Arts in Prato programs.
Congratulations also go to Michael Angelini, 2013 Prato Architecture alumnus, who won the ‘Name this newsletter!’ competition. Look out for Michael’s winning image of the Emperor’s Castle in the next edition of ‘Palazzo Vaj Insider: A newsletter for Monash Prato Alumni’.
During the function, Dr Cecilia Hewlett, Director of the Monash Prato Centre, gave guests a sneak preview of the new promotional video of the Prato Centre. This brought back many memories for alumni of their time in Prato.
Guests then watched the exclusive Australian premiere of Massimo Luconi’s recent documentary ‘The Chinese Occupation: Made in Prato’, which provided a fascinating window on contemporary Prato.
