Wesley College European Tour Ensemble stops in Prato

All the way from Melbourne, making stops across Switzerland, the UK and Italy, The Wesley College European Tour Ensemble will hold one of their few Tuscan performances right here at the Monash University Prato Centre.  

On September 12 at 12pm the talented group of 14 students from Wesley College Music School will perform an eclectic mix of jazz, swing, klezmer, rock, pop and musical theatre.

A public lecture by Sarah Dunant - Getting under their skins: History, fiction and art

Join us for this public lecture by international best-selling author Sarah Dunant on Wednesday 7 September at 6pm.

In this sumptuously illustrated lecture*, Sarah Dunant, international bestselling author of the Italian Renaissance shares the secrets of her trade. To recreate the past as a living, breathing place, Sarah has visited churches, archives, museums and art galleries all over Italy.

Living Spaces Prato

Short films about Prato made by Architecture students from Monash University.

After a 5-week study program in Prato, Monash Architecture students, with a final collaboration with Design students, worked on on film making, under the guidance of lecturers Cameron Rose and Jacqui Alexander. Through exploring the streets, living like a local and discovering what can be considered the beating heart of the city, the students used their experiences to guide the full film making process, from idea through to final production.

Summer closure period

Please note the following closure period during August at The Monash Prato Centre:
  • 6 – 14 August - closed to visitors
  • 15 – 21 August - closed

The Centre will re-open Monday 22 August.

A cherished experience in Prato

Last week of classes for students at the Monash Prato Centre.

Over the months of June and July about 180 students from different Monash Faculties and partner universities attended units at the Prato Centre to study a wide range of subjects: Arts, IT, Business and Economics, Design and Architecture.

2017 Visual Residency Program

Applications open for 2017 Visual Residency Program at Monash Prato Centre

The Monash University Prato Centre is once again offering its Italian residency for 3 months from September 2017. 
Open to Australian practitioners, the residency includes airfare, artist fee, studio and accommodation at the Monash University Prato Centre in Tuscany. Applications are welcomed from emerging and mid-career Australian artists, for a new project or inquiry that relates to the Prato context. The residency is offered in conjunction with the Monash faculty of Art Design & Architecture (MADA) and the Monash University Museum of Art | MUMA.

Living Spaces Prato

The documentary by Monash students about life in Prato will be screened on Wednesday 13 July at 9.30pm at the Castello dell'Imperatore
Living Spaces Prato is a collaboration between Architecture and Communication Design students during the Prato Study Abroad Program. The aim of the video is to capture the lived experience of the built environment beyond the historical significance of the location. 

A new garden for the Monash Prato Centre

The newly launched Monash Prato Centre garden in Italy is not simply a serene space for students to study and absorb the rich culture of their surroundings. The garden’s elegant, yet simplistic design respectfully and creatively pays tribute to the area’s history. 

A generous donation of EUR 50,000 by Prato Centre Patron Carla Zampatti enabled this beautiful garden to be recreated by one of Australia’s most renowned landscape designers, Paul Bangay.
