Raising the profile of sport at Monash Prato

With the recent visit of Australian tennis great, Paul McNamee, and the success of first-time sporting initiatives such as the 626 Prato Campus Run and GLOBAL walk/run, the Monash Prato Centre is increasing the emphasis on sport as the key to better health and wellbeing.

On Tuesday 4 June 2013 Paul McNamee visited the Monash Prato Centre as part of his role as a Vice-Chancellor's Professorial Fellow to assist Monash's development as an enhanced destination for elite Australian and Asia-Pacific athletes and for sport-related study.  During his visit Paul met local and visiting staff and viewed the Centre's facilities, before making a brief visit to Il Tennis Club Prato, which ranks amongst top clubs in Italy.

Paul's visit was the perfect precursor to the GLOBAL walk/run which took place a week later, and saw Monash staff and alumni participate for the first time.  The bi-annual GLOBAL walk/run will be repeated in October when a cohort of Art Design and Architecture students will be in Prato for their semester of study.

So if you're a student or member of staff planning a period of study or research at Monash's Centre in Prato, Italy, ask us how to participate in sporting events during your visit.  You can even pick up a TeamMONASH™ t-shirt when you're there.
